Mahrek

Mahrek is a kinetic structure inspired by the concept of a Dyson Sphere (a hypothetical megastructure that completely encompasses a star and captures a large percentage of its solar power output.)

Installation consists of three main sections; light source, internal structure and external structure. External structure holds mirrors directed to the light source, reflecting the light towards the components of internal structure. Internal structure holds luminance sensors attached to Arduino boards, directed to the external structure, luminance values calculated by the sensors are sent to a computer wirelessly as numerical data. Values provided by the sensors are mapped to manipulate certain parameters of a generative audio patch built inside Max/MSP. Sonic result is produced by the loudspeakers installed inside the room.
